Dalton R: Agile is the value that speaks to me the most. It’s an important value in software development because it’s all about collaboration, seeking out and adapting to feedback, and iterating on problems to arrive at the best solution. Through my internship I’ve learned that it applies to areas outside of development too. It encompasses other important values such as communication and teamwork, and in turn creates teams that can adapt and find success in rapidly changing environments.
What advice would you give to other students/interns looking for experience or considering applying for an internship?
Emily R: Don’t underestimate yourself. There is value in being excited to learn and willing to start with smaller projects to build up your experience over time. Don’t let intimidation or perceived under-experience stop you!
Emma H: Make sure you come in with a positive attitude and ready to work. At LodgeLink there is always something to do as the company grows and adapts to client needs. Make sure you’re ready to wear multiple hats from day to day. Most of all, remember you’re part of a supportive team who will answer any questions you have and is ready to help.
Dalton R: First, I would say apply! My internship has provided me a chance to explore the work that I’m interested in, and I have gotten a lot out of my time at LodgeLink. I now have first-hand experience working as a developer in a professional setting, which has reassured me of my goal of becoming a full-stack developer. My biggest piece of advice for future interns would be to ask lots of questions and don't hesitate to ask for help when needed.
