Keeping in Touch While Away

Being away from loved ones while working in remote locations can take a toll on you.

1. Have fun with your phone and try sending short videos about your day-to-day life. This is a great way to give your family a glimpse into your work life! It is especially beneficial if you have kids at home. No doubt they will love being able to see you anytime they want, and feel connected to you while you are gone.

2. Don’t be afraid to take advantage of other forms of communication. Taking pictures, sending postcards, even writing letters are all great options. It may not be as instant as sending a text or Facebook message, but it adds a personal touch to your communication with home.

3. Make use of messaging apps such as Skype, WhatsApp, and Facebook messenger. These are free to use over Wi-Fi and allow you to remain in contact without a hefty phone bill waiting for you when you get back home.

4. When booking accommodations, check that free wi-fi is available. Pre-planning will help you keep in touch with loved ones while you are on the job.
