An added danger is the potential to fall asleep while at the wheel. Drowsy driving decreases your response time, awareness, and decision-making abilities. It has been estimated that 1 in 25 adult drivers have fallen asleep while driving! If you feel like you just cannot keep your eyes open when you get into your vehicle, there are a few things you can do to prevent driving drowsy.
Some suggestions include pulling over for a 20-minute catnap, carpooling with a less exhausted team member, or buying a cup of coffee or other caffeinated drink. Most importantly, however, you can choose accommodations that are as close as possible to your work site. Decreasing the time you may have to drive allows you to stay alert.
